Varanasi

Days 1/2

sunny 90 °F

These two days we spent riding elephants, exploring ancient mansions and castles and walking around Varanasi. The people in Varanasi rarely see foreigners, especially ones with blue eyes and blonde hair, so they all wanted to take their picture with me! It was kind of funny! The castles that the Mughal rulers used to live in four thousand years ago are amazingly well preserved and beautiful! The Mughals were the only empire that the British didn't destroy. They tended to build their kingdoms higher up on the hills where it was hard for the British to get to . We rode elephants up to one of the castles, and it was very cool. The people painted designs on the elephants trunks and legs with bright, vibrant colors! Altogether, Varanasi was very interesting and we found out that is is also the oldest city in the world! It is over 5,000 years old!

New Delhi to Varanasi

sunny 80 °F

Today we drove from New Delhi to Varanasi. Varanasi was like traditional India! Crowded streets, lots of beggars, many many shops, but surprisingly clean! We took a boat ride on the Ganges river after dinner, floated candles in the water and watched the Indian ceremony where they put the river to sleep.

Siem Reap

Days 1/2

sunny 103 °F

These two days we spent touring Angkor Wat, a magnificent temple complex built by the Khmer people about one-thousand years ago. It was massive, and beautiful too! Angkor Wat had many archways and the top of the temple looked like a lotus flower. It was AMAZING!DSC_4944
