Our last day in South America!

overcast 75 °F

Today, we took the Quito gondola up to see a view of the city. We then stopped at an amusement park afterwards! Mom and I rode roller coasters, and it was a lot of fun!

The Galapagos and back to Quito

San Cristobal Island

sunny 83 °F

Today we disembarked the cruise on San Cristobal Island. We visited the San Cristobal Interpretation Center where we learned about the people who live on the Galapagos. There are four different towns where people live on four different islands. On Santa Cruz Island there is Puerto Ayora where about sixteen- thousand people live. There is San Cristobal Island where it is Puerto Paquerizo Moreno that about eight-thousand five-hundred people live in. On Isabela Island there is Puerto Villamir where about one thousand people live, and in Puerto Flores on Floreana Island about one hundred-fifty live. We then drove to the airport to catch our plane to Quito.

The Galapagos

Genovesa and North Seymour Islands

sunny 87 °F

Today, in the morning we went hiking on Genovesa Island. We saw many red-footed boobies which are very cool. In the afternoon we went on another hike on North Seymour Island. We saw blue-footed boobies and frigate birds. It is mating season, so the frigate birds are mating. When the males want to attract females, they blow up a red pouch on their neck that is very interesting. They also make a mating call which is very high pitched, but very pretty. We also went deep water snorkeling again. We saw lots of beautiful coral reefs and we swam with sea lions! They swam around and under us, and they wanted to play. If was awesome!

Today, we visited the other side of Santa Cruz Island. We took a short hike to see some flamingoes, and we went snorkeling by the beach. We then visited a tortoise reserve where we got to see tortoises in the wild. We also got to walk inside a lava tunnel! It was so cool!
